Our Services

Eau daCité has three streams of impact: Planning and Design, Research and Consultation, and Community Engagement.

We offer an option to financially contribute to our community engagement impact through our “Consultation4aCause” program.

  • PLANNING & DESIGN

    Marine Spatial Planning

We can support you through the Marine Spatial Planning process, especially if you require a human-centered and holistic approach.

    Blue Space Design

We offer landscape architecture services and planning advice for the delivery of projects located in coastal or offshore environments, what we term ‘blue space’.

    Blue Public Space

The concept of blue public space was conceived by Eau daCité’s founder, as a response to the design limitations noted in coastal recreational spaces. We consider blue public space to be public space that either sits adjacent to a waterway or encompasses one. The concept was developed through a case study in Montréal entitled Tracing the Case for Blue Public Space project in 2020.

    Blue Private Space

To increase human connection to our waterways, design and planning for the blue space within the residential context. For example, our offering includes creating natural pools, contemplation gardens, backyard ponds.

    Project Portfolio

    Eau daCité Swim

Eau-Dacité Swim is a swimming instruction program for first-time swimmers aged 3-6, that infuses environmental education into the curriculum. The lessons reference local fauna and flora, landscapes and species, and enables children to develop a deference and respect for the environment. After completing the pilot season, it is clear that by endowing a student with the skill of swimming, they are able to nurture a connection to waterways throughout their lifetime. The lessons are adaptable and can be delivered in a private, semi-private or group setting. The curriculum, although developed to the Montréal context, is adaptable to any region. A successful pilot season occurred in the summer of 2021 and the lessons were delivered in an intensive format in the summer of 2022. We are looking to co-create our next Eau daCité Swim regional program so get in touch if you would like us to focus on your community next.

    Walk the Watershed Event

On a rainy day in late March of 2019, we hosted a ‘Walk the Watershed’ outdoor tour focused on examining: what a watershed is, what the local watershed is in Montreal, and our impact on the health of our waterways. The tour took our participants along the St Lawrence River coastline in Montreal’s Old Port neighborhood where we discussed the definition of a watershed, the human impact on waterway health, and reclaiming the shoreline in terms of blue public space for recreational purposes. Throughout each stop along the tour, we encouraged our participants to reflect on their personal experiences with waterways or bodies of water in their local communities, and facilitated themed discussions in order to better understand how Montrealers can connect / reconnect ourselves to interact with our bodies of water on a more consistent basis.

The inaugural Eau daCité Waterway Festival took place on World Oceans Day June 8th, 2019 in Montreal, QC where local artists, activists and performers gathered to celebrate and honor our waterways. This was an immersive project that celebrated the local and national waterways and marine spaces. Through an evening soiree, the festival served to inspire Montrealers to value their unique river island geography.

    Eau daCité Waterway Festival

This project targeted all segments of the population, with a special effort to include youth, minorities and underrepresented people in sustainability initiatives. Through a playful and engaging approach applied to a very Montreal method of gathering—a festival, this project aimed to repackage waterway health issues and ocean literacy in a more appealing and digestible format.

    #OurEauAsis Campaign

Launched in Summer 2021, the #oureauasis campaign is a social media campaign with the goal of engaging members of our community to recognize and experience their surrounding waterways. We hope that with this campaign people discover their local bodies of water, and share their personal experiences and interactions with the water, whether professionally, socially, recreationally, etc.
